I work in a nursing home, and yeah sure the nurses need to be there on Christmas but do the patients really need my psychiatric services 24/7...I think not. This year my boss decided to be hateful and make every one of us work on Christmas, when there will be nothing there to do since the majority of patients will be out with their families...like normal people. The new girl asked on her first day, "so is there a holiday rotation?" to which my boss replied, "nope!".

How can I even argue?
Clearly your writing has evolved.
Positive note: I'm thankful that you have a job that is legal and honorable. - November 15, 2010 at 8:37 PM

Casey, that is lame town. I am sorry.
Maybelline, you can not argue. And to answer the question you are, I'm sure, thinking; No, it does not get old being right all the time. I think I get that trait from my Mother. - November 15, 2010 at 9:14 PM

You and I are on the same wavelength, sister!! The place I slave for is still smart enough to offer to be closed for TG and Christmas, but those are the limits. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they decided to take that away before too long, too, just like they have every other nice thing that used to be true about working for the place. I never go to any store or other place on national holidays...it's flipping RUDE!! And maybe, just MAYBE, if all the freaking jackholes would stop going out on holidays, companies would stop being so douchey that they work their employees on holidays that should be spent with families.
And I L-O-V-E the bit about unmarried couples!!! ROTFLMFAO That is sheer genius! xD - November 15, 2010 at 11:41 PM

Superb!! Most excellent rant yet!! I too harbor these same feelings, and in fact, I hate working holidays so much that I told my "one day a week boss" that I would not even work the day AFTER Thanksgiving. (Since my one stupid day to work there is Friday.) I hate retail. (Oh, this is Suzanne, by the way.)

AMEN! I used to work for the theme parks in FL and there was nothing more hateful than taking care of random strangers, on a 16 hour shift, knowing the rest of your family is having a wonderful day without you...

Your mother must be a wonderfully brilliant person.
Now, what are your thoughts on those nuts that head out around midnight after the Thanksgiving dishes have been put away to shop for Christmas? - November 17, 2010 at 7:56 AM
